Winds from the South:  An Update from Argentina, Chile and Peru This panel will address recent events in each of Argentina, Chile and Peru that are affecting planning for UHNI, and discuss news regarding tax reforms and/or recent new taxes. It will also address what structures work now for clients, relocation, and how one actually loses tax residency in each jurisdiction.

Presenters:

Arturo Garnham

Arturo focuses mainly on domestic and cross-border tax matters, advising corporations, private clients and families since 1992. He graduated from Universidad de Chile (JD equivalent, 1994) and from Georgetown University Law Center (LLM in Taxation, 2001). He currently serves as co-Director of the LLM in Taxation (MDGT) of Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez School of Law and has taught in the Income Tax section and in the Tax Fraud section since 2009. In addition, he taught Tax Law I and Tax Law II at Universidad Diego Portales School of Law for 15 consecutive years (2004-2019). Before Garnham Abogados Ltda., he worked in PwC, Baker & McKenzie and NLD.

Erik Lind

Erik has extensive experience advising companies in the tax planning of complex corporate and financial transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, financing, project development, among others, as well as in the optimization of tax obligations and in tax claim procedures before the tax authorities in Peru. He continuously advises high-net-worth individuals and families in tax matters related to wealth and estate planning.

Erik has been a senior partner at Deloitte, a partner at Estudio Echecopar (in association with Baker & McKenzie), and has previously worked in International Tax Services at PricewaterhouseCoopers, in New York City.

Nicolás Malumián

Lawyer (cum laude) and Doctor of the Buenos Aires University. Author or co-author of 7 books (including “Trusts in Latin America” edited by OUP in New York) and of over 70 articles (published in Argentina, Latin America and Europe).
